This study aims to examine in depth the concept of Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah according to al-Syāṭibī and its relevance in the development of contemporary Islamic law. Al-Syāṭibī is known as an important figure in developing a systematic maqāṣid approach through his monumental work al-Muwāfaqāt. This study uses a qualitative method with a library research approach, which examines relevant primary and secondary sources, especially the works of al-Syāṭibī and the reviews of Islamic legal thinkers. The results of the study show that al-Syāṭibī divides maqāṣid into three levels of needs: ḍarūriyyāt (primary), ḥājiyyāt (secondary), and taḥsīniyyāt (tertiary), with the main focus on protecting five main things: religion, life, reason, descendants, and property. The maqāṣid approach offered by al-Syāṭibī is not only normative, but also responsive to social dynamics. The implications of this study indicate that a deep understanding of maqāṣid can be a methodological basis in formulating Islamic law that is more contextual and provides solutions to the problems of today's society.
