Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative technology, significantly impacting various sectors, including healthcare, education, and industry. As the field continues to evolve, understanding the global research trends in AI has become crucial for policymakers, researchers, and institutions aiming to optimize AI's potential. This study aims to explore the current AI research landscape through a bibliometric analysis, focusing on geographic contributions, key research themes, and temporal dynamics. This study uses data from scientific publications, including academic journals, conference papers, and institutional reports, and leverages visualizations such as keyword networks and citation distributions with a methodology that uses a bibliometric analysis approach to identify key themes and trends. The findings reveal that the United States leads AI research with 38% of global publications, followed by China and India, highlighting their role as key innovation hubs. Dominant themes such as "machine learning," "digital transformation," and "ethical AI" reflect the evolution of AI research, with generative AI technologies like ChatGPT driving a surge in publications in 2023. Despite the significant contributions of developed countries, the study also underscores the growing role of emerging economies, particularly in addressing local challenges through AI applications in healthcare and education. This study provides strategic insights as a research contribution to guide future research investments and encourage cross-country collaboration.
