Abstract

This study examines the concept of hifzh al-nafs within the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program and analyzes its relevance as a contextual resource for Islamic Religious Education. Methods: This study used a qualitative approach and a literature review. Data were obtained from scholarly literature addressing maqashid al-shariah, Islamic Religious Education, the MBG Program, nutrition, and the preservation of human life. The data were analyzed descriptively and interpretively to identify relationships between life preservation, fulfillment of basic needs, and Islamic educational values. Results: The findings indicate that the MBG Program reflects the principle of hifzh al-nafs by supporting students’ health, nutritional adequacy, survival, and physical development. The program also provides opportunities to cultivate educational values, including gratitude, social care, responsibility, healthy living, and respect for human life. Implications: The MBG Program can function as a contextual learning resource for Islamic Religious Education by connecting maqashid al-shariah principles with students’ everyday experiences. Integrating nutritional practices into religious learning may strengthen meaningful, practical, and socially relevant Islamic education while encouraging students to understand Islamic teachings through tangible health and social practices.
