In the early period of development, a child often gets sensory
experiences. Through sensory experiences, the child has
learned to handle all materials gently. This sensory
experience at an early age is the foundation for children to
learn how to write, including writing Arabic letters. TPQ -
Taman Pendidikan Al-Quran- is a non-formal educational
institution that focuses on learning and instilling Qur'anic
values in children. Most TPQ only provide material on how
to read the Al-Quran, and rarely do TPQ teach how to write
Arabic letters correctly, which are the letters of the Al-Quran.
The community service activities carried out by the Arabic
Language Education Study Program are partnership learning
activities with TPQ. This activity aims to train and improve
students' writing skills at the elementary level through the
non-formal institution, namely TPQ, where this activity
focuses on using the Kitabati book serves as a teaching guide.
The results of this activity are (a) 75% of students can write
separate letters correctly according to Naskhi khat
conventions, 85% of students can write continuous Arabic
with different forms of letters either at the beginning, middle,
or end with the correct rules. Apart from that, another benefit
of using Kitabati in writing at TPQ is an increased
understanding of the relationship between letter shapes and
sounds so that students in elementary classes can
automatically recognize hijaiyah letters more fluently
