This journal recognizes the growing use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including large language models, in the research and writing process. The following policy outlines the acceptable use and disclosure requirements for generative AI in manuscripts submitted to this journal.
Authorship: Generative AI tools do not meet the criteria for authorship, as they cannot take responsibility for the submitted work, nor can they be held accountable for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the research. Therefore, AI tools cannot be listed as an author or co-author.
Disclosure: Authors who use generative AI tools in the writing process, data analysis, image generation, or any other part of manuscript preparation must disclose this use in the Methods section or Acknowledgements, describing which tool was used and for what purpose.
Accountability: Authors are fully responsible for the content of their manuscript, including any text, data, or analysis generated with the assistance of AI tools. Authors must carefully review and verify all AI-assisted content for accuracy, and are accountable for any plagiarism, fabrication, bias, or other integrity issues that may arise from the use of such tools.
Peer Review: Reviewers are expected to disclose any use of generative AI tools in the review process. Uploading manuscripts to AI tools that are not compliant with confidentiality requirements is not permitted, as this may violate the confidentiality of the peer review process.
This policy is subject to revision as generative AI technologies and the broader scholarly publishing community’s norms continue to evolve.
